The Orange Room Review

Accessible poetry of substance

Dipping the dead

by Katherine DiBella Seluja

It was a high school job
second shift

tropical fish warehouse
walking the scale strewn aisles

bubbling tanks stacked three high
moisture and fluorescent light

and the chore that no one wanted

removal of each carcass
bloated midnight skin

some missing eye or fin
scoop and thud of net on plastic tub

feral cats whining at the door
